Dr. Amy Cousins, Medical Director
Amy Cousins, MD is the Medical Director and of Southern Tier Women’s Health Services LLC. Dr. Cousins received her medical degree at Harvard Medical School and was Chief Resident at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. She has been performing abortions in this office since 1989, and is co-owner of Southern Tier Women’s Health Services with Peg Johnston. She has been an adjunct lecturer at SUNY Upstate Medical University and received the Rev. Beatrice Blair Courageous Service Award from Family Planning Advocates of New York State.
Peg Johnston, Owner and Director Emeritus
Peg Johnston is the former Executive Director and co-owner of Southern Tier Women's Health Services LLC with Dr. Amy Cousins. Together, they have created a New York State recognized Diagnostic and Treatment Center. The entity is held to the highest standards of continuing improvement, safety, and accountability. Peg has served as Chair of Abortion Care Network (ACN), a national non-profit organization for independent community-based abortion care providers and their allies. Peg received the David Gunn Lifetime Achievement Award from ACN in 2011.
Peg is also the creator of the Pregnancy Options Workbook, the Emotional and Spiritual Resolution Guide and Abortion: Which Method is Right for Me? Peg has worked on the Mom, Dad, I'm Pregnant handouts which promotes healthy communication between teenagers and their parents, and is the primary author of Healthy Coping After an Abortion, Especially for Men handouts and other resources for patients and family. She is the chair of Abortion Conversation Projects which encourages efforts to resist abortion stigma through community projects.
Dr. Renee Mestad
Renee Mestad, MD has recently joined our staff and brings expertise in second trimester abortion procedures. She was the head of Women’s Health at Upstate Medical School for many years and is highly trained in second trimester abortions. We are fortunate to have her on staff at Southern Tier Women’s Health Services, LLC.
Susan Seibold-Simpson, RN, MPH, CFNP
Susan Seibold-Simpson, RN, MPH, CFNP has provided well woman care at our office for over 30 years. She has a wealth of experience in administration, research, teaching, and institutional quality assessments so she brings leadership in providing quality abortion care. Most recently, Sue was the chair of the nursing program at SUNY-Broome. She was the Deputy Director of the Broome County Deputy Health Department, and has practiced primary care in urban and rural medical settings. She earned her PhD in Health Practice Research from the University of Rochester and her MPH from SUNY Albany.
